Takeshita-dori is the 400m pedestrian fashion-and-snack street directly opposite Harajuku Station’s Takeshita Exit. The candy-coloured shopfronts hold Lolita, Decora, Visual-kei and street-fashion clothing; the snack stalls do rainbow cotton candy, crepes, and fluffy pancakes. Sunday afternoon is when the cosplay subculture still gathers.
What to Expect
The icon entrance arch with rainbow lettering is directly across from Harajuku Station — the photo of the photo. Inside: 400m of pastel storefronts. Daiso 100-yen on the right; Totti Candy Factory for the rainbow cotton candy that became the neighborhood-defining Instagram shot; Marion Crepes at the end (Tokyo’s first crepe shop, 1976). Sunday cosplayers gather at the entrance.
Consider This Instead
For a less candy-coloured indie-vintage walk with the same youth-fashion DNA but no tourist density, head to Shimokitazawa — 10 min west on the Odakyu Line.

FAQ
Is the cosplay scene still real?
Diminished from the 2010 peak, but Sundays 12:00–17:00 still gather Lolita, Decora and Visual-kei dressers at the entrance arch. Polite asking before photographing them is expected.
How long does a walk take?
20-30 min for the 400m stretch + 1 snack. Add 30 min if you queue Totti or browse Daiso.
