Odaiba

Odaiba is the family-oriented reclaimed-island district on Tokyo Bay — built up since the 1990s as an entertainment + shopping zone. The most-photographed feature: the Rainbow Bridge seen from the bay-side park, especially at night when the bridge lights cycle. The Yurikamome elevated train ride to get there is half the experience — fully automated, full panorama, ¥320 from Shimbashi.

What to Expect

Take Yurikamome from Shimbashi — the train loops through the Rainbow Bridge tunnel, gives you the panoramic Tokyo Bay view from the elevated tracks, and drops you at Daiba Station in the centre of the district. From there: the Statue of Liberty replica + Rainbow Bridge view at the bay-side park, the life-size Unicorn Gundam outside DiverCity mall (free, transforms hourly), and four giant malls (Aqua City, DiverCity, Decks, Venus Fort) for shopping and food.

Sunset and evening are the best times — Rainbow Bridge illuminates 18:00–24:00 with seasonal colour cycles. Beach is not for swimming (water quality not approved); it’s a sandy promenade for sunset walks.

For a working-fish-market alternative on a different reclaimed island, head to Toyosu Market — Tsukiji’s wholesale auctions moved here, plus a sushi-counter culture. For Tokyo skyline views without the family-mall vibe, Mori Tower in Roppongi has a cleaner art-and-view experience.
